Bringing "Bruno" the Miniature Xoloitzcuintle from Croatia to Australia.
We recently helped "Bruno" the Miniature Xoloitzcuintle travel from Croatia to Australia.
He is a very exciting addition for his new owners here in Australia, as there are hopeful plans he will contribute to the small gene pool for the breed. Moves like this are super exciting for us to assist in the preservation of such an ancient breed of dog.
Many people won't have heard of the Xoloitzcuintle (pronounced "show-low-eats-queent-lee"), which are a breed of dog that comes in three sizes (like a Poodle) and originates in Mexico.
Bruno is the smallest of those as a Miniature. The Xoloitzcuintle is an ancient breed, tracing back to the time of the Aztecs who revered them as the guides for the dead to the underworld. Today they are a loving companion and vigilant watchdog.
They come in two varieties (hairless and coated). The hairless has tough, smooth, close-fitting skin. The coated variety is covered by a short, flat coat. Both varieties come in dark colours ranging from black, gray-black, and slate to red, liver, or bronze. This primitive breed of dog used to walk through the hot climates of Mexico, so their features, including the hairless gene, developed naturally (opposed to many modern breeds, where traits that assisted the dogs function to perform their job for humans, were selected by owners/breeders).
For owners that want less fur in their homes, the hairless Xolo variety certainly ticks that box!

Kind words from his new owner
“We recently used the services of Our Dogs and Cats to import our new Mini Xolo from Croatia and we couldn't be more happier with the professionalism of Alisha and her team. Nothing was too much trouble, no question was too trivial, no matter the time of day or night.
If you ever need the assistance of a pet importer/exporter, do not go past Our Dogs and Cats. We won't use anyone else.” - Kahlia via Google
